- Fat injection procedures are not new. That said, its popularity in the plastic cosmetic surgery industry has gain momentum over the last decade or
so. Transferring fat from one part of the body to another is considered a safe procedure with little to no side effects. Choosing fat injection
over other injections with synthetic fillers is a great route, however, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, it is important to realize
that you need fat on your body to transfer in the first place. There are common places that surgeon look to safely and effectively take fat from.
Traditionally, surgeons like to take fat from around the waist line, the arms, the thighs, and the buttocks. You do need enough fat in those areas
in order for a surgeon to perform a fat transfer.
Places that are generally used in fat injection procedures are around the face. Often, doctors will transfer fat from one area that there is excess fat, and inject it around the eyes to minimize the appearance of fine lines. Surgeons also can use fat injections for a patient’s chin or cheeks (ASAPS-American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 2017).
Body fat is a wonderful alternative to other injectables and fillers. Fat injections can even re-contour a patient’s face, giving them a different look. However, fat injections are not permanent, and will require more fat injections in the future. They do tend to last for approximately 5-8 months, but is highly dependent upon the patient. So, keep in mind, that fat injections will most likely require a regular maintenance program/schedule. However, it is said that for the best, longer lasting results, patients undergo 3-4 treatments over a period of six months (ASAPS-American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 2017).
Fat injections are not just for cosmetic fillers that you may traditionally think of either. Fat injections are a wonderful treatment to fill out indentions caused from trauma and scarring. Many patients that have experienced loss of tissue from trauma or surgeries, have fat injections once they have healed. These injections help lessen the appearance of the scarring for a more natural, smooth skin surface (ASAPS-Amer Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 2017).
So, what are some of the many benefits for choose Body Fat Injections?
-- Natural- Body Fat Injections use the patient’s own existing body fat, so it is non-allergenic. Side effects and allergic reactions are practically unheard
of for this procedure.
- -- Little to No Pain- There is little to no discomfort for patients having this procedure done, and any discomfort post-procedure can be controlled
with pain medications. The need for the medication would be short lived, as recovery time is fast.
- -- Outpatient Procedure- This procedure is done as an outpatient procedure, and can be done right in your doctor’s office. What is even better? The
procedure only take approximately an hour to perform, and you’re done!
- -- Long Lasting- There are cases, in which patients experience the results of their fat injections permanently. As for comparing to other injections
that are not natural, body fat injections last longer.
- -- No Testing Required- Because the filler used is from the patient’s own body, there is not a need for pre-op testing because the patient’s body will
not reject its own fat transfer.
- -- Cost Effective- Using your own fat as a filler if a fraction of the cost for other filler procedures on the market. Fat can even be reserved from
a liposuction treatment for later use of placement elsewhere in the body (ASAPS-American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 2017).
While fat injections are a wonderful, natural alternative to other fillers that may be synthetic, fat injections can be limiting. Not all parts of the body are able to have fat transferred to it. For example, surgeons cannot transfer fat to your breasts to enlarge them. This is greatly due to the fact that injecting fat into the breast will complicate breast cancer detection. Cosmetic surgery in Orlando has seen that the longevity of the procedure varies greatly from patient to patient, so some patients may need to go more often than others for follow up maintained treatments. Fat injections are also most effective in stationary areas of the body such as the cheeks or chin versus the eyes (ASAPS-Amer Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, 2017). Consult with your doctor to see what the best results for you can be. You must be evaluated to see if there is enough fat on your body to transfer.
